While traditionally, these schemes have been applied to unit and station boards, they are increasingly being considered for other important switchboards and LT switchboards as well to establish a more robust and redundant operation in the plant.

The control arrangements in a power plant are naturally elaborate and extensive. Usually, circuit faults in the control wiring are handled by use of HRC fuses or MCBs. Both require manual intervention for restoration.
